KNXV and KASW, the Scripps ABC and CW affiliates in Phoenix, have named Jose Ochoa as the stations’ creative services director. Ochoa got his start as an intern during his senior year while enrolled at Arizona State University on a Scripps scholarship.

KASW Phoenix Launches ATSC 3.0

Spectrum Co. and Pearl TV are expected to jointly announce ATSC 3.0 launches involving some 150 stations in 30 markets during next week’s gathering in Las Vegas. Their goal is to build a national footprint that will let broadcasters better compete with wireless companies and OTT providers while spurring the development of 3.0-ready TV sets and other consumer devices.

Anticipating FCC authorization of the ATSC 3.0 broadcast standard on Thursday, the consortium of leading station groups is planning to set up experimental 3.0 station next spring to explore service enhancement and business opportunities. The project will also include creatng a “lighthouse” station to continue regular digital service to existing sets. Joining Pearl (Cox Media, E.W. Scripps, Graham, Hearst, Meredith, Nexstar, Raycom and Tegna) in the effort will be Fox, NBCUniversal and Univision.

Nexstar Names Denise McManus KASW GM
The station group’s latest acquisition, Phoenix’s CW affiliate brings in the former sales VP from Telemundo’s Arizona stations.
The deal for the CW affiliate is a result of Meredith agreeing to spin off the station after buying it along with KTVK from Gannett in June.
The sale of KTVK and KASW to Meredith Corp. was part of a deal announced last December that also included KMOV St. Louis.
