Wildfire Coverage Draws Outpouring Of Praise

Two TV stations in Chico-Redding, Calif., KRCR and KHSL, devoted a combined 230 hours of continuous live coverage on television starting last Thursday. In addition, both posted hundreds of stories to their Facebook pages. Viewers noticed their coverage on TV and on Facebook, and flooded the stations with emails and Facebook comments.
Heartland Closes On KHSL Purchase
Heartland USA Television, headed by Robert Prather, closed on the $38 million purchase of KHSL, the CBS affiliate in Chico, Calif., from primary shareholder Rick Gorman on Tuesday. In addition, Maxair Media, a company that Heartland holds a joints sales and service agreement with, closed on the $1.3 million purchase of KNVN, the NBC affiliate in Redding, Calif., from K4 Media. With the KHSL acquisition, Heartland now has five stations in its group.
Heartland Media-owned USA Television Holdings and Maxair Media are buying the Chico-Redding, Calif., CBS-CW and NBC-Telemundo affiliates that USA will operate following closing.
