Local TV Discovers The Benefits Of QR Codes

QR codes became mainstream during the pandemic when restaurants began using the bar codes to allow diners touchless to menus. Now TV stations are finding that QR codes can be used to drive website traffic and app downloads. Their functionality “crosses sales and news,” says Mitchell West, regional director at Nexstar.

News-Press & Gazette Calif. Stations Buy OK’d

The FCC has approved the purchase by the News-Press & Gazette Co. of three stations from the Cowles California Media Co. The $22 million deal is for KION (CBS) and KMUV (Telemundo) in Monterey-Salinas, Calif., and Fox affiliate KKFX Santa Barbara, Calif.

Cowles Moving Local News Outside Market

In a corporate move to reorganize its Central Coast television stations, Cowles California Media will move the anchor desk of local evening news at its two Santa Maria stations — CBS affiliate KCOY and KKFX-CA (Fox) — to the company’s KION headquarters in Salinas, Calif., effective Jan. 13.  In addition, it has laid off approximately a dozen employees from KCOY and KKFX.
