Gray Television has made deals, with the help of the Minority Media and Telecommunications Council, to sell the stations to three minority or women-owned entities to comply with FCC rules. The stations involved are KXJB Fargo, N.D.; KJCT Grand Junction, Colo.; KHAS Hastings-Lincoln, Neb.; KAQY Monroe, La.; KNDX Bismarck, N.D.; and KXND Minot, N.D.
Grand Junction, Colo., TV stations broadcast local news that looks and sounds the same because, in many cases, it is. The city’s ABC affiliate, KJCT, and NBC affiliate KKCO air many of the same videos, often post the same stories on their websites and share on-air talent. The city’s Fox and CBS affiliates operate out of the same building and broadcast identical local newscasts.
Excalibur is buying Grand Junction, Colo., ABC affil for $3 million plus $9 million from Gray Television, which will operate it.
