Vickie Burns Out As KNBC News Director
The sometimes-abrasive executive who expanded the NBC-owned station with a news subchannel, announced in an email to fellow employees Friday that she was leaving the station after a little more than a year and a half.
NBC’s Los Angeles station is calling itself NBC4 Southern California and as part of the makeover, is unveiling a larger news set with a separate weather station, large monitors behind the anchor desk and state-of-the-art graphics.

Commutes Get Worse, Coverage Gets Better
Growing morning commutes and earlier newscasts have given traffic reporting a new importance, not only on-air. And as traffic information from alternative sources grows, TV stations are working to remain the top destination for traffic news. They are developing new ways of tracking traffic in real time and are also delivering the information to commuters through email, social media and mobile devices. Starting this week, NBC is launching three more 24-hour news multicast channels on WTVJ Miami, KXAS Dallas and its trio of California stations — KNBC Los Angeles, KNTV San Francisco and KNSD San Diego. WTVJ will also add an hour-long newscast at 5 p.m. to replace a half-hour newscast at 7on its main channel.
