The decision by the Mormon church-owned Salt Lake City, Utah, affiliate is part of the station’s plan to make the lineup stronger and improve its relationship with NBC, said Tami Ostmark, KSL’s VP of marketing, research and promotion.

The Salt Lake City NBC affiliate owned by Bonneville International says it will no longer be airing NBC’s Hannibal due in part to the show’s “extensive graphic nature.” Instead, it will produce a special edition of KSL 5 News at 9 p.m. on Thursdays to fill the time slot.

KSL Salt Lake City, WBIN Boston and low-power WBGN-CA Pittsburgh are the latest stations to join the multicast network’s affiliate lineup, boosting U.S. coverage to over 50%.

NBC affiliate KSL, one of the last TV stations in America to do on-air editorials, is ceasing the practice. And, as a consequence, longtime newsman Con Psarras will no longer be a fulltime employee at the station.

The network’s soapy drama will air on MNT affiliate KMYU after being dumped by Salt Lake City’s NBC affiliate KSL earlier this month.

The Mormon church-owned NBC affiliate in Salt Lake City announced on its website that it won’t air the new drama series this fall. The decision “is based on the station’s long-term policy to screen programming for material which significant portions of our audience may find objectionable.”
