KXLY Creates Weekly Drone Feature
When KXLY Spokane got its drone, the staff was expecting to be able to use it to cover all kinds of news stories. What the newsroom didn’t anticipate was how limited the area to fly in was going to be: there are pretty tight FAA regulations around Spokane because of two airports and a military base in the area. Like any good innovator, station executives didn’t let this setback stop them though. They used it as an opportunity to create a new franchise for the station. They weren’t really able to fly in the city, but the area all around — the beautiful scenery of the Inland Northwest — was fair game.
Being A News Director Was Never My Plan
To me, being a news reporter is the coolest job in the world. It’s all I ever really wanted to do and I’ve been a part of some incredible stories. But, when I moved into management 10 years ago, I found that I love mentoring journalists and strategizing beyond a single story. Through that, others saw in me something that I had not seen in myself. Still, being a news director was never my plan. Then came the school shooting.
Morgan Murphy ABC affiliate KXLY Spokane, Wash., is looking for an executive news director. Sinclair/Eastern North Carolina is looking for a director of sales. A managing director is needed at HOMEBASE Digital (RJ Media Group) in Connecticut. To see all job openings, visit our Media Job Center here.
KXLY’s Luck: Not All Media Are The Same

And, LinkedIn) by journalists and other supporters of our industry. It has resonated, it seems, with journalists nationwide who are clearly trying to send a message to their family and friends: not all media is the same and we’re not part of a vast conspiracy to promote one candidate or political view or another.”

Dish agreed and KXLY Spokane and KVEW Yakima are now back on the Dish system for the time being.
