New Web Firm Building Celebrity Networks

An under-the-radar media company led by former ABC exec Lloyd Braun called Whalerock Industries could become a threat to the entertainment establishment. Following the cut-out-the-middleman model pioneered by Glenn Beck, who left Fox News in 2011 to start his own subscription-based Internet television channel, Whalerock has made deals to create similar personal networks for some big names: the Kardashian sisters, Howard Stern and the rap star Tyler, the Creator.

Lloyd Braun Issues TV Industry Wake-Up Call

The former senior broadcast network executive criticized the television industry for not being aggressive enough in catering to the way the public consumes content, and warned that too much effort is being made trying to protect business models that will soon be out of date.
