Tina Fey Could Take Over ‘Saturday Night Live’ From Lorne Michaels

The queen of 30 Rock could be making her return to 30 Rock. A source tells the New York Post that Tina Fey is being courted to take over as executive producer of Saturday Night Live when creator and current executive producer Lorne Michaels departs. So far, Michaels, 78, has not formally announced any intention to leave the weekly sketch comedy series he created for NBC in 1975.

PEN, the literary and free expression organization, is giving Saturday Night Live creator-executive Lorne Michaels its PEN/Audible Literary Service Award, which in previous years has gone to Toni Morrison, Stephen Sondheim and Patti Smith among others. Saturday Night Live impresario Lorne Michaels has an intriguing offer for veteran cast members thinking of leaving the show: Don’t. Each summer brings with it an annual SNL ritual in which Michaels and top producers try to figure out which members of the current troupe of the show’s “Not Ready for Prime Time Players” will leave and which will remain. The process usually starts in August, but has commenced earlier this year, according to two people familiar with the matter, as Michaels works to convince cast members whose contracts may have lapsed not only to stay, but to stay for a while.

Lorne Michaels Among Kennedy Center Honorees

This 44th class of honorees for lifetime achievement in the creative arts is heavy on musical performers. The honorees also include Motown Records creator Berry Gordy, actress-singer Bette Midler, opera singer Justino Diaz and folk music legend Joni Mitchell. All will be honored on Dec. 5 with a trademark program that includes personalized tributes and performances that are kept secret from the honorees.
