‘Mad Men’ Drove Tim Lombardi Into Advertising
The critically beloved AMC drama, never a juggernaut in the ratings, set personal bests in its key measure on Sunday night. The hour-and-change premiere telecast averaged 3.3 million viewers. Of that haul, 1.7 million were in the show’s targeted adults 25-54 demo, a best, and 1.4 million were adults 18-49. All three stats were highs for a finale.
This incomparable drama set in the 1960s New York advertising world concluded its seven-season run Sunday night on AMC with a resolution that rang true to its spirit and likely left its devotees satisfied, even as they bade it farewell with regret.

What Makes ‘Mad Men’ So Buzzworthy
Sunday night at 9 p.m. the AMC drama Mad Men returns after a 17-month absence, and based on all the hype and publicity it’s receiving, you might guess the show is among the highest-rated on television. Thompson, founding director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture at Syracuse University, talks about Men‘s wide appeal, whether its long layoff will hurt ratings, and why AMC’s The Walking Dead owes Men a debt of gratitude.
