Are people finally falling out of love with Mad Men? For the second time in two weeks, the AMC show, which has had a lock on virtually every major drama award for the past three years, was beaten by HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.
ABC’s Modern Family earned the TV comedy award for director Michael Spiller, while HBO’s Temple Grandin won the guild honor for TV movie or miniseries for Mick Jackson.

ABC Picks Six Shows For Early Renewal
The network today that it has renewed Modern Family, Grey’s Anatomy, Castle, Cougar Town, The Middle and Private Practice for the 2011-12 TV season.
Turner Broadcasting CEO Phil Kent said Turner, parent of the cable network TBS, which buys lots of sitcom reruns, pulled out of the bidding for ABC’s Modern Family over concerns that the show’s exposure on the Web would hurt its long-term value and ratings.
Twentieth Television’s sitcom has been sold in 33 markets in advance of its broadcast syndication debut in fall 2013.

Despite all the talk about second-year comedies Glee and Modern Family, the season’s No. 1 and No. 2 new shows, the majority of the top programs on broadcast this season remain veterans — and very old veterans at that. Out of the top 15 shows, only two, Glee and Family, have been on the air fewer than four seasons. Nine are in at least their sixth season.
