Fox’s first-year series Monarch is finished. The network canceled the family drama set in the world of country music after a single season. The show’s season — now series — finale aired Tuesday night.
Fox’s Monarch — a new musical drama series starring Susan Sarandon and Trace Adkins — is TV’s most-promoted program ranked by ad impressions in the week ending Sept. 4. Monarch was originally slated to premiere in January but was shifted to the fall due to pandemic-related production issues.
Fox broke with tradition this year by announcing the bulk of its programming slate for the 2022-23 but not a fall schedule in conjunction with its May 16 upfront presentation. The network continues to be forging its own path by unveiling today its fall grid along with premiere dates, becoming the last broadcast network to release its fall lineup but the first to announce premiere dates.
The network cites COVID-related impacts on production in its decision to move the Susan Sarandon-led series off a Jan. 30 premiere date.
New series The Cleaning Lady, Pivoting and Monarch are also set for early 2022 premieres at the broadcaster.
The ACM Award winner and Grammy nominee will star with Susan Sarandon and Anna Friel in the midseason drama.
Susan Sarandon and Anna Friel have been cast as the leads of Fox’s upcoming country music drama Monarch, the broadcast network said Tuesday. Premiering at midseason, Monarch is described as “an epic, multigenerational musical drama about America’s first family of country music,” the fictional Romans.
