Executives from NBCU Owned Stations, CBS Television Stations, Graham Media, SmithGeiger and the Local Media Association envision a future for TV news in two years’ time that is more inclusive in its coverage and among its decision makers, holding on to the heightened sense of relevance it struck with viewers in the pandemic. “It’s incumbent on news departments not just to serve facts, but relevance, perspective and helpfulness,” said CBS’s David Friend at last week’s NewsTECHForum.
NBCU Stations: Reinvestment Reboots The Future

NBCU Owned Television Stations, TVNewsCheck’s Station Group of the Year for 2020, have seen a resurgence under Valari Staab’s leadership and bold investments in infrastructure, weather technology, conjoined newsrooms with its Telemundo stations and digital platforms.

Taboola, which provides a content feed to publishers, said it has signed a five-year deal with the NBCUniversal Owned Television Station division. The stations will add the Taboola feed on desktop, tablet and mobile websites in order to increase user engagement and revenue.

Beginning this week, all NBC and Telemundo-owned local TV stations will use impressions instead of traditional ratings points to measure an ad campaign’s effectiveness, according to an agency pitch document. According to the document, NBC/Telemundo owned-stations’ sales teams will begin to move to CPM measurement “starting immediately.”
The price tag comes from an FCC filing. NBCU announced the acquisition of the Telemundo affiliate group on Monday without giving the price.
It’s been six months since NBC Boston (WBTS-LD) launched, joining the city’s five other TV outlets, including WHDH, which had been the local NBC affiliate for 20 years before network bosses decided to start a new NBC-owned station there. So it seems as good a time as any to gauge how NBC Boston’s fledgling news programs are faring against their established rivals. The short answer: not very well.
