
Lucifer roared back to near the top of the Nielsen U.S. streaming chart after a new season of the show dropped on Netflix, but Clickbait edged it to stay No. 1. During the week of September 6 to 12, Clickbait collected 1.1 billion total viewing minutes, while Lucifer totaled 1.05 billion.

Hulu places two shows in the top 10 originals for the first time with Only Murders in the Building and Nine Perfect Strangers.

Outer Banks topped the Nielsen U.S. streaming chart for the week of Aug. 2-8 with nearly twice the viewing of its closest competitor. The Netflix original was in its first full week of streaming after its second season hit Netflix in late-July. It delivered 2.1 billion minutes of viewing across its 20 episodes. It joins an elite club of shows north of the 2 billion mark in a single week since Nielsen began reporting streaming numbers in mid-2020.

The season 3 debut of The CW’s All American on Netflix was the most watched program on the major U.S. SVOD services for the week of July 26-Aug. 1, attracting 1.433 billion viewing minutes during, according to Nielsen.

For the second consecutive week Netflix’s Virgin River was the most watched program on the major U.S. SVOD services, attracting 1.270 billion viewing minutes during the week of July 19-25, according to Nielsen. Virgin River was the only SVOD program to garner over 1 billion viewing minutes for that week.

Manifest‘s big run on Netflix continued in the week of June 28-July 4, as the canceled NBC series again topped the overall streaming rankings from Nielsen. Loki also rebounded in its fourth week, claiming the No. 1 spot among original streaming shows.

The canceled NBC series again ranks No. 1 in Nielsen’s metric for the week of June 21-27. For the second week in a row, the first two seasons of Manifest recorded more than 2 billion minutes of watch time on Netflix — marking some of the highest tallies for an acquired show since Nielsen began releasing weekly rankings 10 months ago.

Nielsen said Thursday that Manifest on Netflix ran away as the most streamed program for the week of June 14-20 — the same week it was canceled by NBC after three seasons. The cult hit sci-fi drama drew almost 2.5 billion viewing minutes for the two seasons currently available on the streamer that week, swamping everything in its way.

Netflix’s Sweet Tooth was the most watched program on the four biggest domestic SVOD services for the week of June 7-13, attracting 1.434 billion viewing minutes in the U.S., according to Nielsen. It’s a big number but, 404 million fewer viewing minutes than Lucifer tallied the previous week, May 31-June 6.

Lucifer posted a repeat win atop Nielsen’s weekly U.S. streaming rankings, with viewership rising almost 40% as the show wrapped its fifth season. The supernatural drama series, which began on Fox before shifting to Netflix, racked up more than 1.8 billion minutes of total viewing from May 31 to June 6. That tally increased about 40% from the 1.3 billion it collected in the prior week.

In its first full week on Netflix, original series Shadow and Bone captured 1.192 billion minutes of viewing, making it the most watched show on the major U.S. SVOD services for the week of April 26-May 2, according to Nielsen. It was the first time in eight weeks in which any show has surpassed 1 billion viewing minutes.

Video streaming is in an increasingly serious post-pandemic slump as far as original series hits … except for maybe Mare of Easttown on HBO Max, which Nielsen still refuses to measure.

The Melissa McCarthy buddy comedy almost gathered a billion minutes of U.S. streaming during the week of April 5-11, according to Nielsen’s weekly SVOD top 10 ranking list.

For the first time, all four outlets the ratings service measures places a show among the top 10 original series.

Disney Plus’ first and second episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was the most viewed SVOD original series during the week of March 22-28. According to Nielsen, the first two episodes of the six part series garnered 628 million minutes of U.S. viewing.

For the second straight week, there were no breakout hits, and the ratings charts were dominated by reruns of Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds … and Cocomelon.

Coming 2 America did the seemingly impossible and put Amazon at the top of Nielsen’s typically Netflix-dominated weekly SVOD top 10 ranking list for the very first time during the week of March 1-7. The Amazon Studios film garnered more than 1.4 billion minutes of total viewing during its first four days of availability in the U.S., making it the most streamed SVOD title in country during the week ending March 7.

Three weeks before its fourth season premiered on NBC, Good Girls became the most watched show on Netflix in the United States. That’s according to Nielsen’s streaming rankings for the week of Feb. 15-21, during which U.S. Netflix viewers watched nearly 1.08 billion minutes of the drama starring Christina Hendricks, Retta and Mae Whitman. The show’s third season made its Netflix debut on Feb. 16.

Netflix’s offering of Criminal Minds was the most-viewed show on streaming platforms in the last week of January, according to Nielsen’s latest Top 10 list released Thursday. The popularity of Criminal Minds has been the fuel for news just this week. Paramount+ confirmed yesterday it is rebooting the hit CBS procedural, which ran from 2005-2020 and spawned two spinoffs, with a 10-episode season revolving around a single case.

Bridgerton jumped back in front of Cobra Kai to retake the top spot in Nielsen’s U.S. streaming rankings for the week of Jan. 11-17, with sci-fi movie Outside the Wire helping Netflix sweep the top 10. The Shonda Rhimes-produced period romance drew just shy of 1.4 billion total minutes of viewing, outpacing Cobra Kai, which had 1 billion.

Netflix’s Cobra Kai and Bridgerton remained head and shoulders above the rest of the streaming world for the first full week of 2021, although the two shows swapped rankings from the previous week. Cobra Kai topped the chart for Jan. 4-10, with Netflix users watching some 2.11 billion minutes’ worth of the show’s three seasons.

WarnerMedia has touted the performance of Wonder Woman 1984 on HBO Max, albeit without any hard viewing numbers. Now Nielsen has put some data behind the claims: The ratings service says the movie racked up huge audiences on its opening weekend, becoming the biggest feature film in Nielsen’s rankings — and one of the biggest streaming titles of any kind since Nielsen launched its streaming measurement.

Disney and Pixar’s Soul was the most viewed streaming title during the week of Christmas, topping other Netflix original shows and films and even the juggernaut The Office in its final full week on Netflix before moving to Peacock.

With the help of a de-aged and reanimated legendary Jedi, Disney Plus’ The Mandalorian finally triumphed over visual comfort food favorite, The Office. For the week of Dec. 14 — in which the season 2 finale of the Star Wars spinoff series delivered a healthy heap of fanservice in its surprise cameo and plot twist reveal — The Mandalorian blasted off to the top spot of Nielsen’s Top 10 programs list, edging out the mid-aughts workplace sitcom led by Steve Carell. This win marks the first time that a non-Netflix show landed at No. 1 on Nielsen’s streaming ranker.

For the week of Dec. 7, the cringe comedy and mockumentary about the lives of office employees at a drab Pennsylvanian paper manufacturer blasted past the mysterious Mandalorian and weirdly endearing Grogu (aka, Baby Yoda), settling into first place in Nielsen’s Top 10 SVOD programs list. It is the seventh time The Office takes the gold, a record-breaker.

Six shows rack up more than a billion minutes of viewing time during the holiday, and Netflix’s movie Hillbilly Elegy makes the top 10.

The Netflix series had the highest single-week total to date in the streaming rankings, with viewers watching 3.36 billion minutes of the show from Nov. 16-22. The previous high was 3.01 billion minutes for The Umbrella Academy from Aug. 3-9.

The Tom Ellis show has rocketed its way to the top of Nielsen’s weekly top 10 shows on streaming list for the week of Aug. 17, removing The Umbrella Academy from top spot for the first time. Season 5 of Lucifer premiered that week, hence its hellishly strong performance.
