NBC Sports will be winding down the Olympic Channel, which is home to Team USA, on Sept. 30, an NBC Sports spokesperson confirmed. The move comes after the company sunset NBCSN, a long-running sports cable destination, to close out 2021.
Saturday at 6 a.m. ET, NBC will launch The Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA in some 35 million American homes with Mike Tirico previewing the network’s mix of live sports, archival footage and documentaries.
In conjunction with the International Olympic Committee and the United States Olympic Committee, NBCUniversal will debut the Olympic Channel on July 15 in more than 35 million homes. It replaces NBCU’s Universal HD channel.
After years of trying, the U.S and International Olympic Committees have agreed with NBC on a package that will offer year-round Olympic programming, focused on U.S. athletes.
