Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Messenger Experience Major Outage

Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Threads went dark Tuesday morning, leaving users unable to load and access the apps. The tracking website Down Detector showed outages on Instagram, Facebook and Messenger on Tuesday with worldwide outages identified. Some users also experienced issues logging in to their Meta Quest headsets. Meta initially acknowledged the issue on its status page with a message timestamped 10:17AM ET: “We are aware of an issue impacting Facebook Login. Our engineering teams are actively looking to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

Post-Hurricane Ian Cable, Wireline Florida Outages Tick Up

Forida cable operators in the wake of Hurricane Ian continue to work to restore service (phone, TV and/or internet access), but most of a half-million subs (474,706) in the state remain without it as of Oct. 3, which is actually up slightly from the 441,799 without service in Florida Oct. 1. By contrast, only one TV station remained out of service as of Monday, compared to four TV stations out of service Oct. 1.

AWS Suffers Third Outage Of The Month

December has been a rough month for Amazon — at least for Amazon Web Services. The massively popular cloud computing platform suffered its third outage of the month Wednesday, affecting Slack, the Epic Games Store and several other services. The AWS Service Health Dashboard shows the problem lies within a data center in northern Virginia and affects customers in the US-EAST-1 Availability Zone. The first outage was reported at 7:35 a.m. ET.

Verizon Fios Experiencing East Coast Outages

In an emailed statement 90 minutes after the outage was first reported, Verizon said it was working on the problem hurting Fios service “throughout the Northeast corridor” and that some service had already been restored. The telecom giant had reported a cut fiber in Brooklyn via Twitter, although it’s not clear if that issue was responsible for the entire outage. Verizon didn’t give any estimate in its email about when the problem would be fixed.

Thousands Of Netflix Outages Reported In US

On DownDetector.com, a website used to track outages, there was a spike in reported outages Wednesday around 9:30 a.m. PT. About 3,000 outages were reported between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. PT, with most of the complaints coming from the West Coast and Northeast, according to the site’s tracking map. More than 40% of the outages were due to “no connection,” while 35% complained “video streaming” wasn’t functioning properly.
