CBS’s The Neighborhood opened Season 3 with 6 million total viewers and a 0.9 rating (pending possible adjustment due to NFL preemptions), which is right on par with its previous average and led Monday in the demo.
ABC’s Supermarket Sweep rang up 3.3 million total viewers and a 0.8 rating, ticking up in the demo for the first time since its launch to end a three-week slide. Fox’s The Simpsons (3.4M/1.2) nearly doubled its numbers with this week’s NFL lead-in.
Grey’s Anatomy opened its 17th season with 5.7 million total viewers and a 1.3 demo rating, on par with its previous average (6.2M/1.3) and leading Thursday’s non-NFL fare in the demo.
Fox’s The Masked Singer drew 5.8 million total viewers and a 1.5 rating, matching its series low in the demo (opposite significantly stiffer competition) yet still easily leading Wednesday in that measure, as the CMA Awards took a deep plunge.
ABC’s The Bachelorette drew 5.1 million total viewers and a 1.6 rating, matching the season high in the demo set by last Thursday’s special outing and delivering its second-largest audience of the season. The Voice (7.4M/1.1) ticked up from its most recent Tuesday telecast, while This Is Us (6.7M/1.3) and Transplant (3.9M/0.5) each returned down a tenth.
Fox’s terminal Filthy Rich drew 1.1 million total viewers and a 0.2 rating, adding a handful of eyeballs week-to-week but dipping to a new demo low. Opening Fox’s night, L.A.’s Finest (1.6M/0.3) was steady. Over on NBC, The Voice (7.1M/1.0) dipped a bit week-to-week but led Monday in audience and tied DWTS for the demo win.
CBS’s NCIS: Los Angeles opened Season 12 with 5.5 million total viewers and a 0.7 rating, steady in the demo vs. its previous average yet delivering its third-smallest audience ever. Sunday Night Football (14M/4.1) was steady in audience and up a tick in the demo from last week’s fast nationals.
ABC’s eventful, special Thursday installment of The Bachelorette drew a season high in audience (with 5.3 million viewers) while matching its demo high (and leading the night’s non-NFL fare) with a 1.4 rating. Over on CBS, both Young Sheldon (6.5M/0.7 and Mom (4.7M/0.6, returned down sharply from their previous averages (8.7M/1.1 and 6.3M/0.8), hitting series lows all around.
As the country waits for election results, some took a break from the nail-biting to watch The Masked Singer on Wednesday night. Fox’s reality singing competition held steady with last week, delivering a 1.6 in the adults 18-49 demographic and getting a small boost in viewership with 6.28 million viewers.
ABC and NBC are leading preliminary Election Night broadcast ratings. The networks ranked as No.1 in the non-time zone adjusted fast nationals among total viewers (ABC) and adults 18-49 (NBC). Because the election night coverage was live coast-to-coast and spilled into latenight and early Wednesday morning, the primetime fast nationals represent just a snapshot of the election night ratings performance. Full picture is expected later today, including numbers for cable news networks, which have emerged as a dominant ratings force in political coverage.
ABC’s The Good Doctor opened Season 4 with 4.7 million total viewers and a 0.6 demo rating, well shy of its previous average (5.8M/0.9) to mark series lows. NBC’s The Voice (7.5M/1.0) was steady week-to-week, dominating Monday in both measures.
The Simpsons‘ 31st annual “Treehouse of Horror” episode delivered 6.5 million total viewers and a 2.2 demo rating leading out of the San Francisco/Seattle NFL match, improving on its NFL-boosted season opener to mark season highs. Continuing Fox’s night, Bless the Harts (2.6M/0.9) also hit season highs.
NBC’s Superstore re-opened with 2.8 million total viewers and a 0.6 rating, steady in audience and off just a tenth in the from its Season 5 average (2.8M/0.7). Fox’s Thursday Night Football (7.9M/2.2) of course dominated the night, up a tick from last week’s fast nationals. And on ABC, Celebrity Family Feud (5.2M/0.7) was steady with its finale, topping the night’s non-sports fare in the demo.
ABC’s American Housewife opened Season 5 with 3.4 million total viewers and a 0.6 demo rating (and a new Anna-Kat), right on par with its previous average (3.2M/0.6) though down a tenth from what Schooled had been doing in the post-Goldbergs time slot.
This Is Us‘ two-hour season premiere averaged 7.1 million total viewers and a 1.3 rating, up in audience and down just two tenths in the demo from its Season 4 average (6.9M/1.5). NBC notes that This Is Us delivered TV’s No. 1-rated scripted telecast (excluding shows with high-rated NFL lead-ins) since May 11. On Fox, coverage of what would be the deciding World Series game (10.3M/2.7) easily topped the fast nationals for all previous games.
NBC’s The Voice drew 7.3 million total viewers and a 1.0 rating, down 11% and two tenths week-to-week and landing in a three-way tie for the Monday demo win. Leading out of that, Weakest Link (3.7M/0.6) slipped to hit and tie reboot lows.
On Sunday, ABC’s Supermarket Sweep slipped in Week 2, while once again going up against both football and post-season baseball. The game show revival drew 3.6 million total viewers and a 0.8 rating, down 27% and 20% from its premiere. Elsewhere on ABC, Millionaire (3.4M/0.5) slipped 15% and 17%, Card Sharks (2.2M/0.3) was down 19% and 25%, and AFV (4.7M/0.7) ticked up. CBS’s 60 Minutes easily hit season highs (15.6M/2.4) leading out of football with its Biden and (spoiled) Trump interviews.
Thursday’s second presidential debate amassed 23 million total viewers across ABC, CBS and NBC, down 20% from the broadcast-only numbers for last month’s first face-off, which also aired on Fox. Thursday Night Football drew 7 milllion and a 2.1, down 30% from the fast nationals for Fox’s previous hosting of the game.
ABC’s The Conners opened Season 3 with 4.8 mil and a 0.9, down 17% from what its sophomore run did leading off Tuesdays. Closing out ABC’s sitcom slate, Black-ish (3 million/0.6), was on par with its Season 6 average (2.6 million/0.6).
Fox’s coverage of the World Series opener between the Dodgers and Rays averaged 7.2 million total viewers and a Tuesday-topping 1.8 demo rating — though down sharply from the preliminary numbers (11.6 million/2.9) for last year’s Nationals/Astros Game 1. NBC’s The Voice (7.5 million/1.0) was down a tick from Monday’s premiere, but teed up Transplant for Stateside highs of 4.3 million/0.6.
NBC’s The Voice kicked off Season 19 with 8 million total viewers and a 1.2 demo rating, down 10% and 29% from last fall’s premiere but still leading Monday in both measures (save for some football overrun on Fox). On ABC, pending possible adjustment due to NFL preemption, Dancing With the Stars (6.1 million/1.0) and Emergency Call (3 million/0.5) both ticked up.
With NBC’s Sunday Night Football and Fox’s NLCS Game 7 coverage dominating the night, ABC’s Supermarket Sweep led all non-sports fare with 4.8 million total viewers and a 1.0 demo rating.
After all the concerns about threats to democracy in the pursuit of ratings, Thursday’s dueling town halls between Donald Trump on NBC and Joe Biden on ABC ended up being a very good night for Savannah Guthrie, a very very good night for the Atlanta Braves and an excellent night for the former vice president. The ex-Veep’s 8-9:30 p.m. ET The Vice-President and the People snagged 12.2 million viewers and a 2.6 rating among adults 18-49 last night. Over on NBC, a petulant Trump was grilled by Guthrie and voters in Miami from 8-9 p.m. as 10.3 million Americans tuned in, with a 1.7 rating among the key demo.
NBC’s broadcast of the Billboard Music Awards averaged 3.6 million total viewers and a 0.8 demo rating — or less than half of what last year’s show did, airing in May.

Over on ABC, what turned out to be the deciding game of the NBA Finals drew 5.5 million and a 2.1 (per Nielsen fast nationals), down a tick in audience from the early numbers for Friday’s game but matching the championship series’ high in the demo (which was set by its opener). That said, this year’s NBA Finals of course were down sharply from 2019
Fox’s first Thursday Night Football matchup of the season delivered 10.1 million total viewers and a 3.0 demo rating, dominating the night in both measures. Over on The CW, Supernatural returned to 1.13 million viewers and a 0.4 rating, matching its season high in the demo (which was set by the premiere).
It’s no George H.W. Bush vs. Geraldine Ferraro from 1984 or even Joe Biden vs. Paul Ryan in 2012, but viewership for the vice-presidential debate last night between Sen. Kamala Harris and Mike Pence has risen to 50.7 million. With Fox News Channel topping all contenders with 11.5 million viewers, the first and only sit-down between the two candidates this year, the 2020 VP debate is the fifth best result that any VP debate has scored since they first started in 1976.

NBC’s Sunday Night Football matchup between the Eagles and 49ers drew an audience of 11.8 million total viewers, down 20% from last week’s preliminary numbers to put the game on track for a season low. (That said, SNF still and obviously dominated Sunday in both measures.)
The CW’s The 100 wrapped its seven-season run Wednesday night by matching its largest audience in eight episodes (629,000) and ticking up in the demo to equal its season high (0.2). On ABC, the NBA Finals Game 1 delivered Wednesday’s second-largest audience and dominated in the demo, though with barely half the tallies of last year’s series opener, which aired in May.
The President of the United States’ first debate with Democratic challenger Joe Biden drew fewer looky-loos than Trump’s first 2016 face-off with Hillary Clinton, at least per the preliminary TV ratings. Tuesday night’s first presidential debate of 2020 amassed about 29 million total viewers across ABC (which accounted for the largest broadcast crowd, with 11 million), NBC (8 milllion), CBS (5.3 million) and Fox (4.5 million), according to Nielsen fast nationals.

The Simpsons premiered its record 32nd season on Sunday night to big numbers, mainly thanks to a strong NFL lead-in. The return of Homer, Marge and co. delivered a 2.0 rating among adults 18-49 and drew 5.5 million total viewers. That’s more than double the previous season premiere on both metrics, with the caveat that the football gave it a 4.8 and 15 million viewer lead-in. NBC easily won the night overall thanks to Sunday Night Football, which was ticked up around 5% from last week’s fast national numbers, coming in with a 4.4 rating and just under 15 million viewers.
CBS’s Thursday edition of Big Brother finished as primetime’s top-rated show with a 1.1 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 4.00 million viewers (Live+Same Day), while facing stiff competition with the season premieres of ABC’s game show block. As a result, the two networks tied for the top spot in the demo. Meanwhile, CBS All Access’s Star Trek: Discovery had a quiet broadcast premiere on CBS.
