The cast of Parks and Recreation is returning to Pawnee, Ind., for a one-night charity special benefiting Feeding America, NBC announced Thursday. Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman and Adam Scott are among the sitcom’s stars to be featured in the half-hour special airing 8:30 p.m. ET Thursday, April 30. The story reflects the real-life crisis, with Poehler’s Leslie Knope striving to stay in touch with her friends while observing social distancing.
Writer and co-executive producer of NBC’s Parks and Recreation Harris Wittels was found dead Thursday at his Los Angeles home of a possible drug overdose. He was 30.
NBC’s Parks and Recreation will come and go quickly this winter, returning to kick off its final season on Jan. 13 — two nights after Parks star Amy Poehler co-hosts the Golden Globes on the network — and ending its run six weeks later. The critically acclaimed comedy will finish on Tuesdays, airing back-to-back episodes in the 8 o’clock hour.
NBC entertainment president Robert Greenblatt said Sunday that Poehler’s Parks & Recreation will be back for a seventh season next fall. NBC also signed a production deal with Poehler and committed to making a pilot for a comedy that she is writing, tentatively titled Old Soul.
NBC Renews ‘Parks,’ Cancels Bubble Sitcoms
NBC has renewed “Parks and Recreation” for a sixth season while at the same time announcing cancellation of White House laffer 1600 Penn, Whitney and Up All Night.
They don’t get the ratings of American Idol or Big Bang, but they’re still important to their networks, whether winning timeslots or awards.
The cable channel will begin airing the Amy Poehler comedy starting in September.
The two comedies join Community and 30 Rock in securing additional seasons at the network.
It looks like NBC’s 30 Rock will be back for a likely abbreviated seventh and final season, and like 30 Rock, all returning NBC comedy series are likely to get short orders. That would save some coin and allow NBC to pick up more new comedies.
NBC will air an extended version of The Office for Steve Carell’s final episode April 28. Carell’s farewell, which will feature Will Ferrell continuing his guest arc, will air from 9-9:50 p.m. Parks and Recreation will follow with a supersized episode as well, airing from 9:50-10:30 p.m.

It looks like some of that Irish luck is rubbing off on the residents of Greendale and /Pawnee today: NBC has renewed Community and Parks and Recreation for a third and fourth season respectively. In less surprising news, the Peacock has also picked up The Office for an eighth season — its first without Steve Carell.
