Telemundo Launches Streaming Division That Will Feed Peacock

NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises said it has launched a new Hispanic streaming division that will create content that will mostly live on Peacock, NBCU’s streaming service. The new streaming division is developing more than 50 streaming projects that will start airing in 2022. Romina Rosado, above, was named EVP and general manager of the new unit.

Notre Dame Football’s Home Opener Will Not Air On NBC For First Time in 30 Years

The Fighting Irish football faithful will have to pay up to watch Notre Dame’s home opener against Toledo next month. NBC, which has broadcast every Notre Dame home football game since 1991, will sit out the Sept. 11 matchup in favor of NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock. This will be the only Notre Dame game that Peacock will have exclusively; the rest of the Fighting Irish’s home schedule will be available on both Peacock and NBC.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Spinoff ‘Beyond Salem’ Ordered At Peacock

Peacock on Monday announced that it has ordered Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem, a five-episode limited series spinoff of the venerable NBC sudser. Days alum-turned-Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Rinna is set to headline the offshoot, reprising her role as Billie Reed. She will appear opposite Days vets Deidre Hall (Marlena), Drake Hogestyn (John) and James Reynolds (Abe). Other current Days cast members taking part in the spinoff are Jackée Harry (Paulina), Victoria Konefal (Ciara) Robert Scott Wilson (Ben), Billy Flynn (Chad), Lamon Archey (Eli) and Sal Stowers (Lani).

NBC Ratings Rise During Olympic Opening Saturday; Peacock Posts Best Saturday Ever

NBCUniversal set some strong streaming numbers for the opening Saturday of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the first Olympic games since the launch of the company’s streamer Peacock. NBC reported Sunday total audience delivery (a metric of total views from linear broadcast, cable channels, mobile, tablets and connected TVs) rose 26% from the Opening Ceremony the night before and garnered an 8.2 household rating across NBC, USA Network, NBCSN and CNBC, per Nielsen.

NBCU Gives Peacock Major Role In Olympics

Peacock will launch a Tokyo Olympics destination on July 15 featuring live coverage of some the games’ biggest events, including gymnastics, track and field and the U.S. men’s basketball team’s pursuit of their fourth straight gold. The NBCUniversal streamer said Wednesday that Peacock will feature new daily live shows, original programming, dedicated Olympics channels, full event replays and curated highlights. All of Peacock’s Tokyo Olympics programming will be available to stream for free with exception of USA Men’s Basketball live coverage that will be available to Peacock Premium subscribers.

Peacock Lands On Amazon Fire TV, Fire Tablets

NBCUniversal and Amazon just announced that Peacock will launch on Amazon Fire TV and Fire tablets in the U.S. starting on Thursday. The Peacock app will bring thousands of hours of on-demand movies and shows, as well as live news and sports programming, to Fire TV and Fire tablet customers nationwide. The announcement is part of a larger partnership between Amazon and NBCU, with more announcements coming soon.

Peacock has added premium streaming as an option for all of the National Hockey League’s remaining Stanley Cup Semifinal games. As previously announced, the games will also air on NBCSN or USA Network and NBC Sports digital platforms. NBCU Hires Hulu, TiVo Alum Jim Denney As Peacock’s First Chief Product Officer

Denney will start at NBCU next month. He will be based in New York and report to Gidon Katz, NBCU’s president of direct-to-consumer. In what will likely be one of the fiercest haggles in the recent history of TV, NBCU will seek primetime TV rates for ads that run on its Peacock streaming-video service, says Laura Molen, president of advertising sales and partnerships, in an interview.  NBCU has invested heavily in Peacock, believes it gives advertisers the broad reach they need and has worked to make sure commercials on the service stand out, says Molen, noting Peacock runs only five minutes of ads per hour and features a host of special commercial formats.

Only 11.3 million households regularly watch NBCU’s Peacock service, far fewer than use competing services, according to recent internal data.
