Starz said its app now works on select Samsung smart TVs, a move by the media company to further expand the reach of its direct-to-consumer programming. The news comes just a few months after Starz launched its app on Amazon Fire TV.
The social network on Tuesday announced a new app for set-top boxes, including Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and the Samsung Smart TV. The app will let you watch the same kinds of video you can already find on Facebook, but (presumably) on a much larger screen.
With concern about what the next generation of Internet-connected TVs are capable of doing, one group is seeking the legal OK to pry open the software. Interest in the issue is mounting following the recent report that Samsung’s Internet-connected SmartTV advises owners to “please be aware that if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party.”
