Saturday Night Live impresario Lorne Michaels has an intriguing offer for veteran cast members thinking of leaving the show: Don’t. Each summer brings with it an annual SNL ritual in which Michaels and top producers try to figure out which members of the current troupe of the show’s “Not Ready for Prime Time Players” will leave and which will remain. The process usually starts in August, but has commenced earlier this year, according to two people familiar with the matter, as Michaels works to convince cast members whose contracts may have lapsed not only to stay, but to stay for a while.
The final ratings for Season 46 of Saturday Night Live are in, and the venerable latenight sketch program ranked as the No. 1 entertainment show among all ad-supported networks in the adults 18-49 demo. The show averaged a 2.06 rating in 18-49 and 9.0 million total viewers overall in Live+7 numbers. SNL generated the No. 1 most YouTube video views (1.6 billion) of any late-night show in all of TV. It also gained the No. 1 most new fans/followers/subscribers (2.7 million) across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube of any late-night show in all of TV.
This past weekend Saturday Night Live returned to the studio to open its 46th season with host Chris Rock and Megan Thee Stallion. The season premiere, which introduced Jim Carrey as Joe Biden and featured Maya Rudolph as Kamala Harris and Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump, drew and 7.765 million total viewers and a 1.68 rating among adults 18-49 in “fast official” Live+Same Day results from Nielsen, special-ordered by NBC.
The streamer is set to launch all 45 seasons of the veteran sketch comedy series beginning Oct. 1. This marks one of the first times that every season of the NBC show will be available in one place to watch.
