After several false starts, Twitter began making good on its promise Thursday to remove the blue checks from accounts that don’t pay a monthly fee to keep them. Montana lawmakers on Thursday advanced a bill that aims to ban the use of TikTok in the state, due to concerns about national security, privacy and the app’s content. Senate Bill 419m, which would take effect in January, prohibits TikTok from operating in Montana, and prohibits internet service providers and app stores from offering TikTok to users in Montana.

Florida lawmakers on Monday advanced a controversial bill that would require social media platforms to warn users under 18 that the platforms may harm their mental health. The proposed bill would also require social media companies to warn underage users that the platforms may have “addictive qualities” and “present unverified information.” Also, platforms would be obligated to warn minors that their data may be collected and shared.
