Video-sharing website YouTube aims to spruce up its social networking skills through better integration across platforms, and hopes to more than double annual ad revenue in emerging markets like India, a top executive said.
Foursquare rolled out a new feature today than lets users save their favorite restaurants, bars and other spots to their “To Do Lists” with the click of a button. Foursquare announced several publishers who are adding the “save” button on their sites, including CBS Local’s TV websites.
On a typical day, KSAX Alexandria, Minn., attracts about 10,000 page views. Recently, the station set a record, 250,000 page views in a single day and a million views in four days. The secret weapon: a photograph of a strange hairless roadkill carcass sent to the station via Facebook.
Facebook Pitches Social TV
Facebook has a message for the television world: social TV is coming. Andy Mitchell, SVP of strategic partner development at Facebook, pitched a crowd of media and branding honchos at the PromaxBDA conference on the various ways in which he thinks his company can help the broadcast media embrace the social world.
The new offering is focused on the growing significance of social platforms in local media. The company also forecasts the total digital advertising market will hit $23 billion this year.
Participants at a BIA/Kelsey webinar emphasize that new local businesses prefer social networking sites and other new media outlets for their ad buys. And that preference is only going to grow as mobile devices increase in penetration.
