WIMZ-FM, a classic rock station, annihilates all comers on total social actions according to Shareablee data, while Scripps’ WKHT, better known as Hot 104.5, commands the vast majority of fans/followers.

It’s not even a contest in Cleveland among local media competing on social. According to Shareablee data, Tribune’s Fox affiliate WJW trounces fellow broadcasters on TV and radio, along with the local newspaper.

The station’s GM says winning social comes down to treating it just as seriously as its website or broadcast.

KDFW Gets Early Start In Dallas’ Social Lead

Fox Television Stations-owned KDFW holds a clear lead in Dallas-Fort Worth’s social media scene based on data from Shareablee. The station has had nearly 9.2 million social actions in the last six months and is closing in on a million fans/followers. Its newsroom says the foundations for such a strong social platform go back nearly two decades before there was a “social” media.

Tribune-owned KSTU holds a commanding lead over all its local media competition in Salt Lake City (DMA 34) based on Shareablee data. Its news director says a focus on local environmental issues, faith and family has been a boon, and having a couple of newsroom social media ringers hasn’t hurt, either.

Videos Push WTHR To Top Social Spot

Dispatch-owned NBC affiliate WTHR has nearly lapped the social local media competition in Indianapolis (DMA 27) with over 10.4 million social actions in the last six months according to Shareablee data. Ramping up video posts has helped widen the lead, but Tribune-owned WXIN still edges the station out on fans/followers with nearly 564,000 in this week’s Social Scorecard.

In Charleston, S.C., a horrific shooting in an African-American church and a vehement debate over the state’s Confederate flag and heritage have put a community on edge. Raycom-owned CBS affiliate WCSC has used its social platforms to bring fractured people together through civilized discussion, cementing its position in social media leadership in both total social actions and fans/followers.

Weather, Questions Give WBNS Social Lead

Dispatch Broadcast Group-owned CBS affil WBNS leads the Columbus, Ohio, market in both social media actions and fans/followers, according to Shareablee data. The station says that lead is fueled by asking the right call-to-action questions, though it doesn’t hurt to have a wildly popular, Facebook-loving meteorologist in pocket, either.

This week’s Social Scorecard looks at Denver, where Entercom-owned adult contemporary KALC-FM annihilates the local competition on social media actions with more than 20.5 million in the last six months and over 865,000 fans/followers. Tegna-owned KUSA-TV captures a distant second with just over 7 million social actions and more than 668,000 fans/followers.
