Super Bowl Sets Record With 111M Viewers

The Nielsen Co. said Monday that an estimated 111 million people watched the Green Bay Packers outlast the Pittsburgh Steelers in professional football’s ultimate game. That tops the TV viewing record of 106.5 million who watched the 2010 game between New Orleans and Indianapolis.

Early Numbers: Super Bowl Ties Record

It looks like the Super Bowl is on its way to another record. Last night’s contest tied with the 1987 game for the highest-rated ever, up 3% over last year, which was the most-watched game in history. Fox’s Super Bowl XLV averaged a 47.9 household rating and a 71 share, according to Nielsen metered-market ratings released by Fox this morning.
