Tampa Ad Sales Heat Up In Second Quarter
After a slow start to the year, a handful of categories are bouncing back in the Tampa-St. Petersburg media market, just ahead of a crush of political advertising that will drive tight conditions and rising rates through much of 2014. On TV, the second quarter of the year has been aided by spending increases from the restaurant and telecom categories. Each is up 15% to 20% in second quarter, following 15% to 20% declines in first quarter.
The Tampa-St. Petersburg, Fla., market isn’t seeing nearly the TV ad dollars it was at this time last year, when political spending was pouring into this perennial swing state and it was nearly impossible for advertisers to get on TV at the last minute. But even without the political money, Tampa is seeing strong TV spending while bracing for another busy political year in 2014.
