The award-winning local news veteran joins the Telemundo station from the group’s KVDA San Antonio where she was executive producer.

Telemundo ranked as the most-watched Spanish-language broadcast network across primetime for the third week in a row. Building on its previous two-week victory over Univision, Telemundo’s primetime programming averaged 1.1 million total viewers during the week of March 11, soaring over the total viewership brought in by Univision by 14%, according to Nielsen live-plus-same-day figures.

In her new role, Duran will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of news content and operations for Telemundo 33 Sacramento and Telemundo 51 Fresno. She will lead a team of cross-platform news producers, reporters and anchors covering their local communities.

Executives from Scripps News, Gray Television, NBCUniversal Local and ProPublica told a NewsTECHForum panel last week that their cross-group collaborations, as well as with organizations outside their own, have become critical to delivering on their news mission and their viability.

The station group moves him up from senior director of Spanish media sales after guiding advertising sales growth for GrayTV Telemundo Station Group in 42 markets.

Nicole Suárez and Octavio Pulido will serve as the new co-anchors of Noticias Telemundo Mediodía, the network’s midday newscast, starting Aug. 21.

Five Northeast Telemundo stations are collaborating on a weekday evening half-hour show, Edicion Nocturna, that’s yielding new lessons in cooperation while drawing on time-honored methods in newscast production.

NBC and Telemundo local FAST channels are now available on Amazon Fire TV and Echo Show devices.

Executives from Telemundo, Scripps News, CBS News and Stations, Gray Television and SciLine shared the collaborations they’re undertaking and the places they’re taking news content beyond the conventional newscast in a panel at last week’s Programming Everywhere event at the NAB Show.

Samsung TV Plus users can now stream local Spanish-language news through Noticias Telemundo California and Noticias Telemundo Florida, with Noticias Telemundo Noreste and Noticias Telemundo Texas set to join in April.

The U.S. Soccer Federation is switching its Spanish-language U.S. broadcasts to Telemundo from Univision. The USSF said Tuesday the agreement with Telemundo, a division of Comcast Corp.’s NBC Universal, runs through 2026. The first telecast will be the U.S. women’s exhibition at New Zealand on Wednesday (10 p.m. ET Tuesday) and all matches also will be streamed on Peacock.

Defending champion France’s 2-1 win over England on Saturday, which started at 2 p.m. ET, was seen by 13.5 million, including 8.3 million on Fox, 3.1 million on Spanish-language Telemundo, 560,000 on Fox digital platforms and 1.5 million on the Telemundo and Peacock streaming services. Argentina’s penalty-kicks victory over the Netherlands on Friday, which began at 2 p.m. ET, was viewed by 11.1 million, including 5.78 million on Fox, 3.1 million on Telemundo, 665,000 on Fox digital and 1.53 million on Peacock and Telemundo streaming.

This year’s Quarter Finals round of U.S. Spanish-language coverage on Telemundo and Peacock averaged 4.0 million, up 54% vs. 2018’s Quarter Finals.

Fox said its coverage of the round of 16 match, which started at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday, was viewed by an average of 12.9 million. That included almost 600,000 on its digital streaming services. Telemundo said its Spanish-language coverage was seen by 3.58 million, including 1.26 million for its digital streams on Telemundo and Peacock.

Fox has created a modular 2110 system that ties into U.S. operations for its upcoming World Cup coverage. Both Fox and Telemundo, which has U.S. Spanish-language rights to the tournament, will see a series of firsts when the Cup launches in Qatar next week.
