Dish Cornering Market On Satellite Broadband

Dish Network Corp. Chairman Charlie Ergen is amassing substantial assets in satellite broadband. On June 14, Dish agreed to buy TerreStar Corp.’s TerreStar Networks. Dish is also poised to get bankruptcy court approval for its $1.38 billion purchase of satellite-terrestrial broadband provider DBSD North America. And on June 8, Ergen-controlled EchoStar also bought satellite broadband company Hughes Communications Inc., which sells wireless service direct to consumers, among other things. What he plans to do with the assets remains a matter of speculation.
