Hill Harper is reportedly exiting The Good Doctor amid the actor’s Democratic bid for a Michigan Senate seat. The performer, who plays Dr. Marcus Andrews on the ABC drama, won’t be appearing in the show’s upcoming seventh season.
ABC continues to shore up its lineup for the 2023-24 season. The network has picked up a seventh season of its medical drama The Good Doctor, marking the third renewal in as many days for the network. Earlier in the week, ABC renewed The Rookie and Will Trent for 2023-24. The Good Doctor is also poised to become a franchise, as ABC aired a backdoor pilot for a potential spinoff, titled The Good Lawyer, in March. Should it go to series, it will star Kennedy McMann and Felicity Huffman.
Season to date, The Good Doctor is averaging 4.23 million total viewers and just shy of a 0.6 demo rating (in Live+Same Day numbers) — down about 30% from Season 3. Among the eight dramas ABC has aired this TV season, it ranks third in both measures (trailing Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy).
Richard Schiff, star of ABC’s The Good Doctor, and his wife, actress Sheila Kelley, who recurs on the ABC medical drama, provided an update Monday about their ongoing COVID-19 fight. The two had tested positive Nov. 3. The Good Doctor remained in production in Vancouver following Schiff’s and Kelley’s COVID diagnosis. Shooting is continuing, with the filming schedule reshuffled to accommodate the duo’s temporary absence.

The Good Doctor averaged a 2.4 rating in adults 18-49 and 11.5 million viewers. That is approximately a 9% increase in the key demo and approximately 2% in total viewers compared to the series premiere last Monday (2.2, 11.2 million).
