After airing repeats for three-plus months due to the coronavirus shutdown, CBS’s The Young and the Restless returned with original episodes the week of Aug. 10. However, a sizable chunk of the show’s audience was not there to greet it.
The daytime drama The Young and the Restless follows The Bold and the Beautiful back on to the schedule after resuming production in July. New episodes will resume on Aug. 10.
CBS’s The Young and the Restless is poised to become the second U.S. daytime drama to return to the set. The producers of the soap have sent a letter to the cast and crew, notifying them of a tentative plan to restart production on July 6.
The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful will air their last original, pre COVID-19 shutdown episodes this week — Thursday, April, 23, specifically. So, bginning Monday, April 27, the network will dip into Y&R and B&B‘s collective 80-year library and present memorable theme weeks.
CBS daytime dramas are the latest TV series impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. In the face of a fast-escalating health crisis and new restrictions by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti aimed at slowing the epidemic, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful are stopping production. The shutdown is effective Tuesday, March 17, as both series are dark on Mondays. Currently, filming is suspended for the next two weeks.

After more than 8,100 episodes and 32 years on the air, The Bold and the Beautiful finally snared first place in the key soap opera demographic. The CBS daytimer hit a 0.9 among women 25-54, beating longtime No. 1 and sister show The Young and the Restless’ 0.8. In actually sheer audience, that’s 530,000 for B&B to 507,0000 for Y&R.

Two longtime soaps, CBS’s Young and the Restless and ABC’s General Hospital, lead the Daytime Emmy Award nominations announced today. The May 1 awards ceremony, however, will not broadcast on TV. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has nixed plans for a telecast of the ceremony because of the cost.
The network receives 61 nominations, with its The Young and the Restless receiving 26, the most of any daytime show. The 41st annual Daytime Emmys will be presented June 22 in Beverly Hills.
