NBC may try, but it just can’t seem to quit Timeless. The young sci-fi drama, canceled for the second time in only two seasons, is being revived one (seemingly) last time for a two-part series finale holiday special.
Timeless is coming back for a second season at NBC, despite the network canceling the time-travel drama just days ago. A Peacock net insider tells TVLine, “We heard the fans and didn’t want to be on the wrong side of history.”
NBC has canceled the time-tripping freshman drama after one season. Averaging 4.6 million total viewers and a 1.1 demo rating, Timeless was NBC’s No. 6-rated drama.
NBC’s first-year drama Timeless isn’t exactly a ratings juggernaut, but it receives more than half of its audience from DVR viewership. That was the case for the show’s Feb. 6 episode, which averaged 6.06 million total viewers with seven-day DVR playback added in. That was up 107% from its original live-plus-same-day DVR viewership of 2.93 million. It was the only program during the week ended Feb. 12 to more than double its audience through DVR playback.
NBC has given Timeless some more time. The time-travel drama’s first season has been extended to 16 episodes. In addition, Taken — the series adaptation of the Liam Neeson action films — will premiere Monday, Feb. 27, at 10 p.m., immediately following The Voice‘s spring return.
ONZA Partners sued NBCUniversal and Sony Pictures Entertainment, claiming Timeless is an unauthorized version of its show El Ministerio del Tiempo (The Ministry of Time.)
