Nexstar Is The Star Of TV Station Groups

It comes out on top of TVNewsCheck-BIA Advisory Services’ annual list of the Top 30 groups ranked by revenue thanks to the failed Sinclair-Tribune merger, with Nexstar picking up the Tribune stations. And the spinoffs from that deal also boosted the rankings of Tegna and Scripps.

Status Quo Rules Top 30 Station Groups

A scarcity of M&A activity in the last year resulted in few changes in TVNewsCheck’s annual ranking of station groups by revenue. The first 11 slots remained the same, with Fox Television Stations on top. The big change was the loss of Journal Broadcast Group, which merged with E.W. Scripps.

Fox Is TV’s New Station Group Leader

TVNewsCheck has changed the methodology of its annual TV station group rankings prepared by BIA/Kelsey, switching from basing the list on U.S. market coverage to revenue. In 2011 that means the top five comprise Fox Television Stations, CBS, NBC and ABC and Tribune.
