More Details On KPLC Tower Toppling

One of the worst-case scenarios for a television station played out early Thursday morning as the strong winds of Hurricane Laura moved into southwest Louisiana. The transmission tower of KPLC was snapped in half during the fierce storm, sending the top portion of the tower tumbling down into the station’s broadcast studio below.

KCBD Recovers Fast From Tower, Power Loss

A week ago yesterday at about 7:30 p.m., a single-engine plane hit the guy-wire on the TV tower outside Raycom’s NBC affiliate in Lubbock, Texas, bringing down most of the tower and cutting all power to the station. Even though power wasn’t restored for a day, the station was producing news and back on the air within three hours with the help of the local Fox affiliate and others. Photo by Butch Adair.
