In a colorful rant aimed at the media executives gathering in Sun Valley this week for Allen & Co.’s annual mogulfest, media analyst Rich Greenfield of BTIG blasted the current state of TV Everywhere — the five-year-old concept introduced by Time Warner that was supposed to save the media ecosystem as we know it.
It’s the ads — or, rather, the same ads over and over — BTIG analyst Richard Greenfield says in a report, and documents in a video of his experience when he caught up with The Americans on FX’s FXNow site.

Online TV Viewing Up 246%, Apple Leads
Overall, TV Everywhere content consumption grew 246% year-over-year, excluding data from the Sochi Olympics, according to a new survey from Adobe. More consumers search and consume TV content on devices running Apple’s operating system. iOS apps now surpass browsers for the first time as the most popular access type for TV Everywhere, taking 43% market share in 1Q 2014, up from 41% in the year-ago quarter.
TV Everywhere is too complicated and fragmented to be really popular — but it has nonetheless been a success in an unlikely area: It has forced networks and operators to think more like Netflix, and radically change their development to embrace mobile devices and much shorter release cycles — all of which is helping them to prepare themselves for a streaming future.
Cox Communications has launched Showtime Networks’ Internet-video service, which lets subscribers of the premium cabler watch live and on-demand access to programming on a range of devices.
Tentpole Events Driving TV Everywhere

What Happens To Broadcasting If Aereo Wins?
If TV’s copyright infringement arguement is rejected by the High Court, it doesn’t mean the end of over-the-air broadcasting as we know it. The doomsday scenario is flawed and broadcasters could counter with their own OTT service. The only certainty for broadcasters is the need to think it through and be prepared if they do come up short in court.

TV Everywhere’s Problem? No One Wants It
Joe Marchese, CEO of true[X] media: “I would argue that the real problem with TV Everywhere is that it’s an unwanted solution to a problem that people don’t really have. Despite what the pundits say, people don’t want a “TV” experience everywhere. Seriously, who honestly likes the user interface of their TV? Even video-on-demand leaves us wanting a better solution. Consumers take their content with them around the house — and beyond. That doesn’t mean we want to port the remote + set-top-box experience everywhere as well.”
