Ted Stephens, VP-GM of KCWI-KDMI Des Moines-Ames, Iowa, to Twentieth Television: “As a broadcaster I am incensed by how you sold our industry down the river. The double standard you demonstrated in the terms of the syndication rights to Modern Family for cable and broadcasting is nothing short of unethical.”
Another piece of the syndicated talk show puzzle has fallen into place heading into NATPE, with the Fox TV Stations opting not to pick up the talk show hosted by Kris Jenner for next season but leaving the door open for 2015. Kris, produced by sibling Twentieth Television, had a six-week trial run on several key Fox stations this past summer.
The syndicated show will partner with Cumulus Media’s stations in an attempt to boost its ratings during the November sweep. One element is a listener contest with a trip to Hollywood as the prize.
Twentieth Television’s off-net comedy has been cleared in more than 180 markets on a number of station groups including CBS, Sinclair and LIN for a fall 2014 debut.
The former Warner Bros. executive will be responsible for all sales initiatives on behalf of Twentieth Television including ad sales for 20th Century Fox Television and Debmar-Mercury programming.
The two syndicated shows getting tryouts on some Fox O&Os both generated women 25-54 demo increases from their lead-ins year-ago timeslot averages.
Next Monday, the syndicator will launch a six-week test of Kris Jenner’s talk show on six Fox-owned stations. The hour-long program, which will feature a set designed to resemble Jenner’s home, will focus on Hollywood insider gossip and lifestyle tips, celebrity guests and a different co-host each day.
Twentieth Television will now be under production studio 20th Century Fox Television, where president Greg Meidel will now report to Gary Newman and Dana Walden.
Kris, a new daily, one-hour entertainment talk show hosted by television personality, entrepreneur, author, and mother of six, Kris Jenner, begins a six-week preview on July 15, on Fox O&Os in markets that include New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Minneapolis and Phoenix. The program, produced by Twentieth Television, will feature celebrity guests, fashion and beauty trends plus a mix of lifestyle topics.
