Kevin Adell, owner of Adell Broadcasting and WADL Detroit, served WMYD Detroit a cease and desist letter after WMYD agreed to succeed WADL as the market’s The CW affiliate. The letter was hand-delivered to Scripps-owned WMYD, sister station of WXYZ.
CW programming such as FBoy Island, The Spencer Sisters and Children Ruin Everything will no longer be seen on WADL Detroit after owner Adell Broadcasting dropped the Nexstar-owned network. “They didn’t pay, that’s really what it comes down to,” WADL owner Kevin Adell said Monday. “It’s always about the Benjamins, don’t ever forget it. Everything is always about the Benjamins.”
The American Television Alliance says the purchase would give operational control of the Detroit MyNetworkTV affiliate to Nexstar, in violation of federal ownership rules.
The purchase of the MNT affiliate from Adell Broadcasting gives Mission its 30th station and its second in Michigan.

Kevin Adell’s WADL Detroit (DMA 15) has secured the market’s MyNetworkTV affiliation, and will make the switch Sep. 20. WMYD, known as TV20 and owned by Scripps, is the current MyNetworkTV station in Detroit.
With the addition, he classic TV and film diginet from Sony Pictures Television Networks boosts its coverage to 70% of U.S. TV households and has affiliates in all of the top 25 markets.
