In the hit CBS comedy, Young Sheldon, the main character is a child prodigy, academically gifted in the sciences. In a promo campaign for WBOC’s Dan Satterfield, the station’s chief meteorologist, the spots depict Satterfield as a child resembling young Sheldon.

The owner of the CBS and Fox affiliate in Salisbury, Md., was struck by a pickup truck Thursday morning while out for his daily bicycle ride. He underwent surgery Thursday afternoon but did not survive the night.

While politically motivated hacks such as the ones that may have disrupted France’sTV5Monde and WBOC Salisbury, Md., are scary, they aren’t likely to be typical. Stations and networks are more likely to be hit by garden variety malware and malicious code intrusions because where there is IP, there is vulnerability. An area of particular security concern to broadcasters is the nation’s Emergency Alert System, which is increasingly dependent on networked and IP-based services.

Atlantic Broadband, the local cable provider serving viewers in Talbot, Queen Anne’s and Kent counties in Maryland, has returned CBS affiliate WBOC Salisbury, Md., TV to its channel lineup after reaching a long-term retrans agreement. The station has been off the cable system since late December.

The Salisbury, Md., CBS affiliate was hacked by an outside group, posting pro-extreme Islamic messages on the website. “We have managed to take back control of WBOC.com,” station manager Craig Jahelka said.  “We have contacted Twitter to let them know that our account has been hacked, but they haven’t done anything yet.” The postings to the site were from a group calling itself the CyberCaliphate.

On the Delmarva Peninsula, WBOC Salisbury, Md., is finding success with its digital efforts. Since the arrival of Brooke Knight Warner four years ago as the CBS affiliate’s Interactive chief, digital revenue has increased 10 fold and the portfolio of new advertising, directory and digital services clients has grown to 1,200.
