Nexstar Quietly Starts ‘DC News Now’ From Scratch

Nexstar put news operations of two of its stations together at one location in the nation’s capital and branded it as DC News Now. Now, 100 days into the expansion, it has begun a branding campaign that outlines the central points of its news coverage philosophy.

WDVM and WDCW will occupy a new state-of-the-art newsroom and studio. The combined operation will offer 67-plus hours of local news and be known as “DC News Now” and will be led by veteran journalist and news management executive Ben Dobson.

The local broadcasting, marketing and sales executive with more than 20 years of large-market leadership experience will oversee Nexstar’s CW affil in Washington and independent in Hagerstown, Md.

Nexstar gives him responsibility for WDCW Washington in addition to his existing role as VP-GM of WDVM Hagerstown, Md.

Morning Dose on KIAH Houston, News Fix on KDAF Dallas and the late newscast at WDCW Washington are all ending within the next two weeks. The staff associated with those shows has been let go.
Tribune DC’s News Anchor To Be In Richmond
Tribune Broadcasting’s Washington CW affil’s new broadcast will be anchored from Tribune’s WTVR Richmond, Va., with local reporters, MMJs, sports reporters, photographers and editors based in DC. It will debut on April 18.
Vince Giannini, the former VP-GM of Tribune’s WPHL Philadelphia, is promoted to SVP-GM and also adds responsibility for the group’s WDCW Washington.
WDCW Names Gene Lightfoot GSM
He joins the Tribune CW affiliate in Washington from KHOU Houston where he was national sales manager.
