John Gormally, the former owner of ABC affiliate WGGB Springfield-Holyoke, Mass., got out of the television industry two years ago, is suing Charter Communications for allegedly underpaying him for retransmitting his broadcasts in 2013, according to a legal complaint being heard in U.S. District Court in Springfield.
Patience Hettrick, the assistant news director at Hartford, Conn. CBS affiliate, WFSB, also a Meredith property, has been promoted to news director for the company’s Springfield stations: WHSM-LD (CBS) and WGGB (ABC and Fox). Current WHSM News Director Dave Ward will serve as assistant news director for both stations.
Meredith Corp. has agreed to purchase the Springfield, Mass., ABC affiliate (which also airs Fox programming on a subchannel) from Gormally Broadcasting for $53.8 million.
