Anchor Gordon Peterson Leaving WJLA
Gordon Peterson, one of the deans of local television news in Washington, says he plans to leave Sinclair’s ABC affiliate WJLA at the end of the year. But he insists he isn’t going away. “It’s not a retirement statement,” Peterson, a fixture on Washington’s airwaves for 45 years, said Friday. Chuckling, he added, “There’s still some mileage in this Chevy.”

WJLA Hit With Political Ad Complaint
The Campaign Legal Center, Common Cause and the Sunlight Foundation filed a complaint at the FCC alleging violations of long-standing rules and law by Sinclair ABC affiliate WJLA Washington. The complaint claims that WJLA continues to refuse to disclose the “true identity” of the sponsor of political ads being run by NextGen Climate Action Committee and asks for expedited action given that Election Day is just a few weeks away.
Interesting Times For Sinclair In Washington
Since Sinclair bought ABC affiliate WJLA Washington and its NewsChannel 8 cable channel, there have been staff defections. Some sources say the Sinclair’s conservative bent and statements by CEO David Smith of advertiser importance are to blame. But, Sinclair’s News VP Scott Livingston says those charges are overblown and the company has plans to step up “unbiased and aggressive reporting” at the station and expand NewsChannel 8 nationally.
