NBCUniversal has combined management of its two TV stations in Chicago, with WMAQ GM David Doebler now overseeing both the O&O and its Spanish-language Telemundo sister station, WSNS.

Debra Juarez, who guided the expansion and resurgence of WMAQ Chicago during five years as news director, is leaving the NBC O&O to head digital operations for two of the parent company’s stations in Miami.

Monday marks the start of a 4 p.m. weekday newscast on NBC-owned WMAQ Chicago, increasing NBC 5’s output to 41 hours of local news each week. Marion Brooks will anchor the additional half-hour, with co-anchor duties shared by Rob Stafford and Dick Johnson (similar to the lineup for the 4:30 p.m. newscast).

WTAE Pittsburgh, WXIA Atlanta and WMAQ Chicago are the station winners included in the first batch of 10 winners from its inaugural Peabody 30 winners for 2016.

Stefan Holt signed off today as NBC O&O WMAQ Chicago’s morning anchor to head to NewYork, where he’ll join his father, NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt, at the network’s 30 Rock headquarters. The younger Holt will be anchoring the 4 p.m. newscast NBC-owned WNBC plans to launch in April. 

Too bad if you missed it, but Tuesday afternoon, during the height of Chicago’s afternoon rush hour, NBC-owned WMAQ Chicago demonstrated why it’s now setting the standard for top-notch breaking news coverage among local television news outlets.

NBC-owned WMAQ Chicago has added a new weapon in its longstanding quest to become the top-rated news outlet in Chicago. His name is Richard Maginn, who for 14 years was executive producer of archrival ABC-owned WLS’s top-rated 10 p.m. newscast.
