Nobody knows where it’s headed, but starting this week a news sharing partnership is quietly being tested between Chicago’s NBC-owned WMAQ and Merlin Media’s all-news WIQI-FM. The two are taking a few tentative steps toward an arrangement similar to that between two of Chicago’s CBS-owned stations — WBBM-TV and all-news WBBM-AM.

Debra Juarez, who headed the news operation at Fox-owned WFLD Chicago for 12 years, is returning to the Windy City to become news director of NBC-owned WMAQ. Juarez is expected to join the station early next month from New England Cable News, a 24-hour news channel in Boston, where she’s been news director since June 2010.
