The state-of-the-art 160,000 square-foot media center in Needham will be unveiled in the fall of 2019. It will house WBTS (NBC), WNEU (Telemundo), NBC Sports Boston and NECN. On hand were NBCU execs and local business and political leaders.
It appears that NBC Boston (with the still unconfirmed call letters of WBTS) may reach the market’s viewers through Telemundo affil WNEU after the station group buys low-power WTMU.
WNEU will begin airing local news at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. starting Monday, the first time ever for the Spanish-language station. The addition of the newscasts, Noticiero Telemundo Boston, is the latest in a series of efforts to bolster local news at Telemundo stations across the country.
Telemundo’s Boston station plans to launch its first local Spanish-language newscasts this summer, the latest step in a push by parent company NBCUniversal to add programming for Hispanic viewers. The station says it will hire five journalists to produce two half-hour newscasts on weekdays at 6 and 11 p.m. WNEU will share studio space, footage and sometimes personnel with New England Cable News, another NBCU property with an editorial staff of about 130.
