Noncoms WPBT And WXEL In Merger Talks

A proposed merger of two Florida public TV stations would serve a combined market area roughly equivalent to the country’s seventh-largest Nielsen market. WPBT in Miami and WXEL in Boynton Beach, some 60 miles away on the state’s east coast, today announced their intention to work toward becoming a new entity, PBS South Florida. The two stations have informally discussed collaborations over the past decade, but this is the first announcement of a possible merger.
