Not only are host Steve Jones and judge Nicole Scherzinger exiting from the Fox show, but now a Simon Cowell insider says that Paula Abdul won’t be returning as an X Factor judge next season.
With an adrenalyn rush from X Factor and The New Girl, Fox scored its first No. 1 during premiere week for the first time its history in the key 18-49 demo. It averaged a 3.4 rating/9 share in that category, according to Nielsen, up 31% over last year and its highest-rated premiere week in 11 years. Fox was the only network to see gains over last year. CBS, which finished No. 2 with a 3.1/8, was down 6% from last year, when it won premiere week.
Broadcast hasn’t seen so many possible breakout hits in years. At the start of the new season three shows are going gangbusters: CBS’s 2 Broke Girls and Fox’s The New Girl and The X Factor. Whether they can maintain the momentum remains to be seen.
General Motors has signed on as one of the larger sponsors of Fox’s X Factor, becoming the second major advertiser to pledge support for the much-anticipated musical-contest program, according to people familiar with the situation.
At least 10 months out, Fox has begun plugging what it hopes will be another successful sing-off. The network started airing 10-second teasers for The X Factor on Thanksgiving night.
