YouTube is rolling out a short-form video feature called “YouTube Shorts” to compete with the popular social media platform TikTok. Google’s YouTube video platform is rolling out a new video ad format designed specifically for spots that are less than 30 seconds long.
The platform has ordered series from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Dan Harmon and Doug Liman, along with a second season of the mystery series Escape the Night. The announcement was made at Mipcom, where Susanne Daniels, YouTube’s global head of content, stressed the new shows weren’t about simply bringing TV to digital. “Our goal is to be uniquely YouTube,” she said.
