Ex-Bonneville President Bruce Reese Dies

Reese joined Bonneville as general counsel in 1984 and served as president from 1996 to 2010. Under his leadership, Bonneville stations won more than 40 Crystal and Marconi awards from the NAB, through a philosophy of strong local talent and service to community.

Former Bonneville International President Bruce Reese has died, according to the current president, Darrell Brown. He ws 70.

In an email to staff, Brown called Reese “a fine president and outstanding community leader.”

NAB President Gordon Smith also issued a statement lamenting the passing. “Bruce’s accomplishments in broadcasting — former NAB Joint Board Chair, former National Radio Award Winner and chair of the NAB Education Foundation — were surpassed only by his commitment to charity and community service. Broadcasting is a better business and the world was a better place because of my friend Bruce Reese.”

According to Brown’s email, Reese joined Bonneville as general counsel in 1984 and served as president from 1996 to 2010. Under his leadership, Bonneville stations won more than 40 Crystal and Marconi awards from the NAB, through a philosophy of strong local talent and service to community.

Bruce’s community activities included the United Way of Salt Lake Board of Directors and Intermountain Healthcare Board of Trustees. He has also served as Chair of the Joint Radio and Television Boards of the NAB and as a director of the Associated Press.

Bruce began his career as an attorney in Washington and also worked in the antitrust division of the Department of Justice.

Brown said that Reese is survived by his wife Lu Ann, seven children, four daughters-in-law, two sons-in law and 12 grandchildren.
