Tegna today promoted Brad Ramsey to senior vice president overseeing KVUE Austin, Texas, and KENS San Antonio, in addition to his role as president-GM of WFAA Dallas-Ft. Worth (DMA 5). Carolyn Mungo has been promoted to VP and station manager at WFAA.

The moves come following the decision of Tegna EVP Peter Diaz, who currently oversees KVUE and KENS, to retire at the end of 2019.

Since joining WFAA in 2018, Ramsey has led the station to broadcast ratings and revenue share growth. In the past year, WFAA has also received a National Edward R. Murrow Award for Investigative Journalism, a Walter Cronkite Award for Political Coverage, and NPPA’s award for Large Market Station of the Year.

“Brad is a tireless advocate for our work as local broadcasters,” said Lynn Beall, Tegna EVP and COO for media operations. “His infectious leadership style and operations acumen will make him an excellent resource for his colleagues in Austin and San Antonio.”

Additionally, Carolyn Mungo, currently executive news director, has been promoted to vice president and station manager at WFAA effective immediately. Mungo has led the WFAA content team through several major stories that have captured national attention, including coverage of the Ebola outbreak which paralyzed the city for six weeks and the critical and sensitive coverage of the downtown Dallas protest in 2017 that ended in the killing of five Dallas police officers. Under her leadership, WFAA’s “Daybreak” program has improved its ratings and standing in the market. Mungo was selected in 2016 to participate in the inaugural Tegna Executive Leadership Program and was named Broadcasting & Cable’s 2018 News Director of the Year.

“Carolyn’s successful efforts to innovate, experiment and build a deep and loyal connection with DFW audiences across platforms make her perfectly suited for this leadership role at WFAA,” added Beall.
