More than 350 broadcasters and celebrities filled the Plaza Hotel’s ballroom to capacity, raising more than $400,000 to support the mission of the Broadcasters Foundation of America.

This year’s event honored Dave Lougee, president and chief executive officer of Tegna Inc., with the Broadcasters Foundation 2020 Golden Mike Award, and George Beasley, founder and chairman of Beasley Media Group, with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Beasley’s daughter and current CEO of Beasley, Caroline Beasley, accepted the award on his behalf.

The annual Golden Mike Award gala is a major fundraiser for the Broadcasters Foundation of America, the only charity devoted exclusively to providing aid to broadcasters in acute need.

This year’s event was hosted by Inside Edition’s Deborah Norville and featured a performance by Grammy Award-winning Nile Rodgers and Chic that had attendees on their feet and dancing.

The evening’s presenters were Gordon Smith, NAB president-CEO; Jack Sander, founder of Sander Media and former Belo executive; and Lynn Beall, Tegna’s EVP and chief operating officer of media operations.

The Broadcasters Foundation of America has distributed millions of dollars in aid to broadcasters who have lost their livelihood through a catastrophic event, debilitating disease or unforeseen tragedy.
