Brian Murphy Upped To General Sales Manager At WCVB Boston

The advertising veteran will succeed Andy Hoffman who is retiring later this year after 40 years at the Hearst ABC affiliate in Boston.

Hearst Television’s ABC affiliate WCVB Boston today promoted Brian Murphy to general sales manager. He is currently WCVB’s local sales manager and is succeeding Andy Hoffman who is retiring later this year after 40 years in sales leadership at WCVB. Murphy will be just the sixth general sales manager in the station’s history.

Murphy brings more than two decades of media sales experience to the position. A 15-year veteran of WCVB, Murphy has been local sales manager since 2009. Before joining WCVB in 2006 as national sales manager, Murphy held senior sales positions at WFXT Boston and Fox Sports Net New England. He started his career in media sales as an account executive in Boston, first at WBCN-FM and later at WEEI-FM.

Over the course of his career at WCVB, Murphy has helped build and lead a TV and digital sales team. The station said he also played an instrumental role in the Boston-area launch of Hearst AnyScreen, an OTT product developed by WCVB parent company, Hearst Television.

He is a graduate of the Hearst Leadership Development Program presented by Harvard Business Publishing Corporate Learning.

An announcement regarding Murphy’s successor will be made at a later date.
